After all the basic furnishings, decided to have some fun getting boh liao things just to make the place a little more personalized. We spent a lot of time planning colours, items, DIY-ing furniture from that fabulous IKEA shop in Tampines. But little to speak of in terms of fun stuff.
After surfing the net, looking at www.apartmenttherapy.com for inspiration, reading a whole bunch of home interior mags, decided to get some fun stuff to line our rooms with. Then looked at www.urbanoutfitters.com, which has an apartment section. It features some funky eclectic items that smack of dormitory, hippie chic, with emphasis on alternative rock culture and some hints of handicraft-type work.
Like this mirror, which has a frame made of recycled magazine paper. Reminded me of my granny’s arts and crafts – she made baskets out of recycled rolled up mag paper. Its all glossy and of good quality, so no point letting it go to waste with its fabulous colours and spreads.
Went for their knick knacks which had animal motifs which are quite trendy now. Birds, elephants, plants, whatever brings a little more earthiness to our somewhat modern interior look. This one’s a vintage style clothes hook. Intend to install it in the MBR. Another birdie item was this candle holder to cast a whimsical glow with, and this jewellery stand.
Elephants anyone? Bought this for the kid’s bathroom, found it was useful in getting our little elephant to the bath one reluctant lazy saturday morning… Elephants always have a good time in the bath, don’t they?
There are other elephants around the house too, a tissue box holder and a tea towel ring. Both bought in Chiang Mai’s night market. No photos yet, will try to update when possible.
